A Neopolitan Mastiff gave birth to a record 24 pups 20 of which survived the dark grey pups weighin at a stone in weight already,in adulthood they will reach 2 foot in height and weigh an average of 13 stone!.

while this is a massive achievment by any standards, it must be said that the mastive bitch gave birth by c section. While this is not detracting from the amazing news, just imagine what a scoop that would have been if the pups had been born naturally!

Absolutely and imagine the feeding and cleaning up! But they were adorable I hope they find good homes for the little rascals.

as they were pedegree pups, I think they will find good homes.

I hope so but unfortunately there are plenty of pedigree dogs in rescue centres

Post 6 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Friday, 21-Jan-2005 9:21:48

Wow! That would've been one tired out mama if she gave birth naturally! Lol!

Post 7 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Friday, 21-Jan-2005 10:45:44

Post 8 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Friday, 21-Jan-2005 12:44:29

no problem. The Neopolitan Mastiff originates from Napoli Italy.Where they were used to guard business's and homes. For all their size and weight, they are capable of moving quickly and silently, the dog would creep out of an alley and grab the poor burgular ect before he had time to scream!..that would allow the owner time to call the police who would have no problemo arresting the suspect, I can imagine he was very glad to see them..smile

Well if you think you can afford him Caitlin good luck to you.smile ..I wouldn't like to see your food bill, or the expression of pure terror, on the face of your local vet.

smile.

Lol. I'm kinda shifty around big jumpy dogs myself, on account of i was once jumped on when I was eight by a massive rot whiler while selling girl scout cookies. Lol. Now i'm scared of big dogs when I first meet them, especially if they jump on me. Lol. So it probably won't be the best idea. Lol! Caitlin

Well you have a big problem there Caitlin because these guard types can over react to fear, as any predator will, or they can become over protective which is just as dangerous.Rottweilers are ok its all in how they are brought up and socialised but I can completely understand how you feel ,as my Uncle Callum had an Irish Wolfhound called Paddy who was a might grumpy,I was never able to tell if he was winding me up or what...when your 5 and 2.5 feet and 10 stone of of dog, is growling loudly, its feckin scary...Callum told me Paddy's only talking to you if you answer he'll be happier".

Lol Goblin!!! Well yeah this dog was really really tall, this rot whiler ahahha. And I was really short! And it almost knocked me over, and my mom too! It was freaky! SO yes I suppose i wouldn't do well with that big guard type doggie anyway!!!

Post 16 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Monday, 24-Jan-2005 13:30:16

smile. Paddy and I enjoyed the craic..eventually. I've met 5 rotties and they were ok, some just have no idea of their size and strength and will treat you like a toy, or more worryingly, a pray item,so how about a Scots Terrier, their fierce and you can always pick up the little blighter if he/she gets stroppy.

Ahahaha! Sounds cute!!! Little dogs are jumpy and yappy sometimes, but the ones that aren't are quite cute and nice. Smile. Caitlin

they are its all a question of taste I find small dogs are far more confident than most larger breeds they are convinced they're giants in a small bodies.

Yeah I know a big dog that's frightened of small dogs which I think is funny but makes a strange sort of sense. Caitlin

I know a homicidal toy poodle called ..Tiddles who is a little shit..he seems to harbour resentment towards anything with a pulse especially blind fellas. He has grabbed my cane 3 times so far {I think}and shaken it until I'm tempted to toss the little eejit into the river, his owner a very patient lady said laughing at my expression, *go ahead Alex I wont even report you* Tiddles is a tyrant and we know of 2 rotties and 1 doberman who are scared to death of his nibs.

Post 23 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Wednesday, 26-Jan-2005 14:14:52

a case in point goblin. Smaller dogs can be absolute bastards, because they seem to take umbridge at the slightest little thing!

Post 24 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 26-Jan-2005 15:05:10

That's totally true, Dobbin. *smiles* My cousin has 1 of those smaller chihuahuas, and when she decides to make herself comfortable on my cousins bed, if even my cousin moves, she'll actually snap at her. I have a bigger dog (not a chihuahua, but a big mutt), and she can get stubborn sometimes, but she won't go as far as to bite or anything, even if I physically move her. We also have a bigger chihuahua (than my cousin's), and she has a similar temper if she's bothered and also has her moments when she really doesn't feel like playing with my dog and my brother's puppy, while the latter 2 are more calm and playful.

your right Dobbin as for Tiddles he is nothing short of psychotic, and those chiuahuahs, are fearless. I've never been happy around something less than 12 inches, for fear of standing on the little bugger and recieving a nasty nip or 2 and thats just the owners .smile.
